Chrom 2011: New production plant for chromatography materials

- New production plant for chromatography materials
Demand for modified silica gels is constantly growing, as are regulatory requirements. Moreover, GMP is becoming more and more important for chromatography materials as well. In order to ensure future readiness for our customers, we invested in a new, modern production plant for silica gel modification. The new plant will expand our production capacities as well as your supply security – and it’s “ready for GMP”.

Regardless whether large amounts for industrial applications or supplies for analytical laboratories are needed – when it comes to modified silica gels for reverse phase chromatography or special normal phase chromatography, quality- and safety-conscious companies turn to Merck. As a dependable and competent partner in the field of chromatography, Merck stands for high, constant quality, the ability to deliver fast and reliably, and strong technical support.
Constant product quality
We know what our customers want: maximum reliability, constant product quality, and a strictly controlled production close to GMP. That’s why we carried out “Chrom 2011”, an investment project involving a new building for the modification of silica gels by silanization in Gernsheim, Germany. The new production plant is “ready for GMP” – thus we will be able to deliver materials produced according to GMP if needed. Production of all our modified particulate silica gels (LiChroprep®, LiChrospher®, Purospher®, SeQuant®) is currently transferred from Darmstadt to Gernsheim – first deliveries out of the new plant are scheduled for spring 2011. Most important for you: You can be absolutely sure that production processes and specifications will remain unchanged by the transfer – this is a top priority for us!
Even more supply security
When building the new modification plant, Merck invested several million euros in state-of-the-art equipment. The complex includes a kilogram laboratory for producing materials for analytical chromatography (HPLC, TLC and Sample preparation) as well as a highly modern production area with reactors from 63 to 1,000 litres where materials for preparative and industrial chromatography are manufactured. Stable production processes enable not only high and constant product quality, but even more supply security as well – regardless how much you order.
Shorter production and delivery times, more flexibility
In the future, surface modification will be done right next to the silica carrier production. By concentrating the production of carrier materials and final products together with our analytical know-how in one place, we achieve even higher efficiency, shorter production and delivery times, and more flexibility. In a nutshell: With our new modification plant – one of the largest and most advanced of its kind worldwide and the only one “ready for GMP” at the moment – Merck has sufficient capacities to ensure highest quality and supply security, quickly deliver large amounts of silica gels, and respond to customer demands with high flexibility.
