Merck sponsors the UNESCO biosphere reserve in South Africa with each Titripac^® package sold

For every Titripac^® package with analytical reagents sold, Merck donates 50 euro cents to the UNESCO biosphere reserve “Kruger to Canyons” in South Africa. With this donation, Merck supports the creation of medicinal plant gardens by traditional healers. This project intends to stabilize the natural vegetation in the region and intends to contribute to sustainable land use.

The sponsorship of the UNESCO biosphere reserve was prompted by the “Sustainable Protection & Development” mission. Sustainable development and the protection of people and nature are focal points this year for Merck's laboratory business. With this commitment, the company assumes the responsibility for more than just their own products and packaging. At the same time, Merck underscores their dedication to social projects.

In March 2010, the German UNESCO commission came to visit Merck in Darmstadt to discuss the partnership and possibilities of continued cooperation. A tour of the site and intensive discussions about corporate responsibility and global involvement completed the visit.
